PITIGLIANO

PITIGLIANO

Pitigliano, Sorano and Sovana are called “Tufa Towns” and are part of a very wide area named Archaelogical Tufa Park, with its peculiar Vie Cave (also said Cavoni), which are actual canyons trapped among impressive and steep tufa walls. Such area, (especially Sovana and Sorano area) includes numerous Etruscan Necropolis cut into tufa. Nowadays Pitigliano is a well-known tourist destination thanks to its peculiar historical centre and was listed by ANCI as one of the most beautiful Italian small towns. Reaching Pitigliano by sea or driving up the Regional Maremman Road 74, enjoy the stunning view of the chracteristic houses built on a tufaceous drum in the same jutting vertical as the sheer cliffs.
